Flagship Revitalizaton Streetscape Plan - Phase 1

Main Street Pascagoula will be utilizing our American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to begin this first phase, which focuses on much-needed improvements to the Krebs Avenue parking lot. The overall streetscape plan was developed by Orion Planning and Design through a grant from Mississippi Power, and it divides our Flagship District (downtown) into several block-by-block improvement plans. Main Street Pascagoula's long-term goal is to continue addressing each block as additional grants and funding become available.

Phase 1 Overview

    • Resealing and restriping the parking lot to improve appearance and functionality.

    • Adding on-street parking on both sides of Krebs Avenue, along with designated handicapped parking spaces.

    • Maximizing parking capacity in the lot.

    • Concrete curb and gutter installation for better structure and drainage.

    • High-visibility stamped concrete crosswalk from the train track right-of-way to the front door of the Odd Fellas building, matching the city’s existing crosswalk design (and those planned for Jackson Avenue).

    • Pedestrian-only middle section in front of Odd Fellas: Cars will no longer enter here, but will instead use the existing entrances/exits on each end of the lot. Bollards will be installed to create a safe, direct pedestrian walkway from Odd Fellas across the train tracks to Canty Street.

    • Traffic island on Pascagoula Street to improve vehicle flow.

  • Main Street Pascagoula has been working closely with City Engineer James Douglass, who is overseeing the project as this is a city-owned parking lot. Contractor HHCG, LLC will carry out the work.

    • The project will be completed in sections to allow through traffic when Krebs Avenue is closed.

    • All business and building owners have be notified in advance.

    • Resealing (when the parking lot must be closed) will take place on a Saturday, allowing the lot to reopen by Monday. (the date has not been determined yet, but we will communicate that with all business/building owners as well as post on social media)

    • We will also promote parking in the Victory Lot during construction.
